Had heard a lot of good things about SamBar pub & kitchen in Khar, Mumbai recently. So when I went on a trip to Mumbai recently, I visited this place and had a wonderful experience there thanks to innovative food & drinks.

It is Mumbai’s 1st South Indian Bar & Pub and it’s located in Khar West. Here, there’s a South Indian take on everything – from interiors, food, drinks to the staff.  This is one place where fusion gets a whole new definition.

As you can see, even the waiters are dressed in lungis and the glassware ranges from small matkas to proper drinking glasses!

Coming to the South Indian inspired cocktails, I loved the Capi Madras which is a caffeinated cocktail of vodka, coffee liqueur and cardamom. It is served chilled!

This was served in the unique way by which filter coffee is served in South Indian hotels which you can see in the picture below. All the drinks & Cocktails can be ordered by the glass or for the inebriated ones, by the litre.

Equal attention has been paid to their food too; Coconut oil is used for most of the preparations and most of the ingredients are sourced directly from the Southern parts of India. The must-try dishes include Goli Bajje which is Mangalore bajji- deep fried maida balls with a crisp layer inside. They were really yummy.

Another popular food item is Paneer Paniyaram which is slow simmered South-Indian dumplings stuffed with cottage cheese. I loved the mint chutney too which was served with it.

Awesome drink you should not miss while there is the Payasam drink/shot which is a homemade infusion of the traditional Payasam but with a twist. It is really a stunner!

Other must-try drinks are Rasam Mary – a play on the traditional Bloody Mary, with rasam, tequila, lime, tabasco and tomato juice and Curry Martini -a classical martini infused with curry leaves.

Gun Powder Fries, Meen Pollichattu, Kori Rotti , Andhra Fish Fingers, Poricha Kozhi, Meen Urundai and Peppered Meen among many other native dishes are served here, which brings the distinct flavours from the South Indian coastline to the table.
