Last Saturday I was invited to a Golf Tournament in Bangalore called The Krishnapatnam Port Golden Eagles Golf Championship at Prestige Golfshire near Nandi Hills. I was really intrigued by it as generally I have only seen Golf on TV but never seen a tournament live. I was also very excited to know what Krishnapatnam Port has to do with this golf tournament. I had seen the ads on TV about Sharmila Nicollet playing golf on Krishnapatnam Port which showcased the best of that place but was not sure this was about golf or the port or both.
When I read up about it, I realized that The Krishnapatnam Port Golden Eagles Golf Championship was launched in 2015. It was held at the Oxford Golf and Country Club, Pune and was hugely cheered across the industry. It witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 100 corporate golfers (CXO level) representing 12 countries. This year, it has grown into a Tri-city event with Bangalore and Hyderabad being added to the mix along with the finale in Pune. The second season is set to house corporate golfers from the senior leadership team of more than 200 companies across 12 countries as participants.
The Bangalore leg was held in Prestige Golfshire Near Nandi Hills. Having more than 275 acres of lush greenery, an ancient hill fortress with an expansive lake and far away from the maddening crowd, The Prestige Golfshire offers an ultra luxurious experience in Golfing and Residential Living, with its Mansions, Falcon Greens Clubhouse, Private Lake and 18-Hole Championship Golf Course. This classic golf resort built with undulating greens and shapely bunkers, makes the game more challenging and a delightful experience.
After we reached there early morning at 7am, we had a sumptuous breakfast and interacted with all the golfers there. We also had the privilege of meeting up with cricketer-turned-golfer Kapil Dev who is one of the legends of Indian cricketing. He is the only player in the history of cricket to have taken more than 400 wickets (434 wickets) and scored more than 5,000 runs in Tests. One of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game, Kapil Dev was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2010.
We also interacted with the brand ambassador of Krishnapatnam Port, Sharmilla Nicollet. She is a 12-time winner on the Women’s Professional Golf Tour of India and one of the top golfers from India. All the golfers at The Krishnapatnam Port Golden Eagles Golf Championship had the rare opportunity to interact with her and witness her formidable golfing talent. Due to an injury, she was not able to play in this leg of the tournament though.
I did a Facebook Live with Sharmila Nicollet who answered questions from Twitter. It was really a fun and candid way to know the person behind the face of the champion!
You must be wondering why Krishnapatnam was organizing The Krishnapatnam Port Golden Eagles Golf Championship, right? Lemme tell you. Krishnapatnam, the country’s largest all-weather; deep water port on the east-coast of India in an effort to rephrase ‘customer delight’ and ensure a longstanding bond with each of its clientele has set up a first of its kind, world class 18-hole integrated golf course within the port premise. Carved in a beautiful, natural landscape within the port hinterland CVR Links been planned designed and executed by the very renowned architect, David Hemstock who is also credited for creating the Amby Valley Golf Course near Mumbai.
Inspired by the home of golf – St. Andrews, CVR Links has a teeing ground that is set off by markers, showing the bounds of the legal tee area, fairway, rough and other hazards, and the putting green surrounded by the fringe with the pin (normally a flagstick) and cup. The course is made of pure sand and is USGA certified material. The golf course is also linked to the ocean, making it the first of its kind, in the country. Like they say in their ads, you can have an entire island to yourself when playing golf at CVR links golf course in Krishnapatnam.
There is a nice Android app for CVR Links golf course located at the Krishnapatnam Port, Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh. The app allows you complete intelligence on the CVR Links course, allows you to capture moments on the course with the built-in camera feature and even book tee times right off the app! You must definitely check it out!
